Today's earworm is "San Francisco" as played on the Mighty Wurlitzer. Once this ditty is in your head it kind of lingers. "St. Louis Blues." Great jumpin' catfish, I picked up "A Few of My Favorite Things" from the 60-something couple sitting across from me on the Dulles Parking Lot Shuttle. Apparently, they figured out how to watch movies on their mobile device and were playing everybody The Sound of Music. You know what some of my favorite things are? Headphones. Hoyt Curtin was a genius. I've never enjoyed accordion so much. This morning I have the bustling underscore from "The Jetsons" this morning (2:17 of this excellent clip from the DVD set — YouTube at its best). The entire clip is worth listening to. There's ocarina, theremin, snare drum, bass, and either real or electric horns. Great stuff. Thanks to my coworker, Marc, I went on a show tune jag last night and wound up this morning humming "They Were You" from "The Fantasticks." It's a lovely song and I'm well aware that it could have been so much worse. "This Was a Real Nice Clambake," for instance. Lonnie Donegan singing "The Midnight Special," which is not as good as Leadbelly but way better than Fogerty. But none is as good as Stan Freberg as Lonnie Donegan singing "The Rock Island Line." Well, it makes a difference to the sheep. Got "Patricia" again. Here's two-fer from YouTube: a slowish version of "Patricia" and "El Ruletero" with Perez Prado himself. The theme from Luke's new favorite cartoon, "Johnny Test," some CW or WB cartoon that has yet to exhibit one original idea. I've really got to class up his options. |
