Solipsistic

Boy, once you latch onto this word it's really hard to get rid of — and all sorts of situations present themselves where it applies. I caught solipsism from Christopher Hitchens, who is reading to me from beyond the grave...a fact, I think, that would have tickled him.

According to Wikipedia, the variety of solipsists I've been running across lately are "epistemological." You know, the kind that believe that the only thing that's true is what's going on in their own minds and that "the external world is an unresolvable question, or an unnecessary hypothesis."

In other words, "Whatever was decided in that hellish, four-hour meeting is pretty much whatever I walked in there thinking it was going to be, so let's all just do THAT."

Does that count as a jingle? Maybe it's a mantra. Anyway, I have those for words in singsong today.

Right, Rorge
Woke up with Don Messick in my ear voicing Astro, the Jetsons' dog. Turns out it was my actual dog, Charlie, wanting very much to go outside. Now I have lots of Jetsons incidental music and words rattling around my brain.

I got stuck on "Tralfaz" in several voices of Daws Butler and am calling my dog "Rastro" for the rest of the day.

I present "Millionaire Astro," season 1, episode 15 of The Jetsons, courtesy of the wretched WB.

I'm sorry for the commercials.

Everything I'm thinking is in the voice of Daws Butler as Cap'N Crunch. It's kind of awesome and it makes the sad news of the day that much more bearable.

    Little Tunes

Every morning — or just about — I wake up with some snatchlet of music in my head. Some days it may take well past lunch for the theme from "What's Happenin'?'" to work its way out and I figure why should I suffer alone?

This page is a record of my daily earworm.
