Woke up with the Dragnet theme, so I took a listen to one of the shows piling up on the feed from "Old Time Radio Detectives" (available free from the iTunes store). Such a great show. Here is an episode from May 4, 1950 called "Badge Bandit." Joe's mother is in it and so is a lady police officer. And if you smoke long cigarettes, smoke "Fatima" -- best of all long cigarettes.
